Lower Back Pain Treatment with Acupuncture — Ontario, CA
Lower back pain is the single most common reason patients walk into our clinic. Sometimes it shows up after a specific injury — a lift gone wrong, a slip, a long drive. More often, it builds for years before becoming impossible to ignore. By the time most patients try acupuncture, they've already been through PT, anti-inflammatories, sometimes injections, occasionally surgery. The pain hasn't gone, or it came back.

Lower back pain rarely lives only in the muscles that hurt. The contributing pattern is usually some combination of restricted hip mobility, limited thoracic extension, or deep stabilizers that aren't engaging well. Acupuncture, combined with manual work and movement, may help with muscular tension, local inflammation, and restricted movement that contribute to chronic back pain. Research on acupuncture for chronic low back pain has shown promising results in clinical trials. Outcomes for any individual depend on many factors.
What treatment looks like
First visit runs 60–90 minutes. We start with movement screening — what your hips do under load, what happens when you reach overhead, where the pain provokes. Then a session combining acupuncture in both local and distal points, cupping along the paraspinals, and short manual work to address thoracic and hip restrictions. Treatment courses vary by case. We re-assess at each visit. More involved cases tend to need a longer runway. Herbal formulas may be included when inflammation or sleep is part of the picture.
When to seek immediate care
If you experience sudden weakness in the legs, loss of bladder or bowel control, or numbness in the saddle area, seek emergency care immediately. These can be signs of cauda equina syndrome, which requires urgent medical attention.
Related issues we often see with this
Many patients with chronic back pain report improvement in sleep and morning stiffness over a course of treatment. Individual results vary.
